LASTING POWERS OF ATTORNEY

Securing your welfare into the future

We all have the right to manage our own money, property, health and affairs as we feel is best for ourselves and our families. But, we may not always be able to do this, whether by illness, disability, or an accident. However, there are many practical steps we can take to prepare for this and as we get older this can become a particular concern.

This could range from making practical and financial arrangements while we’re still able, letting our family know our wishes on how we'd like to manage our affairs in the future, writing a will, to choosing someone we trust to give a power of attorney (legal authority to act for you) over our affairs, if this is necessary.

Making some sensible arrangements can lighten the burden on relatives or carers who might otherwise find it difficult to make complicated decisions on your behalf. It can also help to ensure that everyone knows what your wishes are and who you want to make those decisions on your behalf, reducing the scope for unwelcome disputes amongst your nearest and dearest.
